The Obafemi Awolowo University Management have declared indefinite midterm break for their student asking them to go home and rest. This is the outcome of the emergency senate meeting held on Sunday. According to the Public Officer of the school ,Mr Abiodun Olarewanju, the students are to go home and rest. He also stated that the indefinite midterm break given to the student has nothing to do with the on-going strike by the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) The school has been shut down.
The members of NASU are currently at logger-heads with the management over the unpaid 64 months salary arrears and have shut down provision of essential services at the campus since last week Wednesday
From the report the management took the decision at the senate meeting because of the information that the strike might get intense by Monday as NASU members from all other universities might be storming OAU as early as 6am to solidarise with their OAU counterpart . He also said there is every possibility of Police getting drafted into the Campus any time soon, so for precaution reasons of breakdown of law and order they have to shut down the school.
