Militant At it Again- Agip Pipeline Blown

There were indications on Tuesday evening that militants operating in the Niger Delta may have again blown up a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) at Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw local government area, Bayelsa State.
It would be more than a dozen times that the oil and gas facilities belonging to the Italian Oil giant would be breached this year alone.

Nigeria Labour Congress Kicks Off Strike In Abuja

The congress wants both tariffs reversed, and has vowed an indefinite strike from Wednesday until the government accedes to the demands.
A last minute dialogue on Tuesday to forestall to industrial action broke down after the government said it could only consider raising salaries and other measures to cushion the impact of the fuel price hike.
Leaders of the NLC marched on Wednesday at about 9AM from Labour House in central district of Abuja to the federal secretariat, where the president of the congress, Aliyu Wabba, addressed workers.
A procession of unionists and workers, decked in t-shirts and displaying flags, is to move to the Berger Junction in Abuja, and will continue every day until the government rescinds its decision, Mr. Wabba said.

Strike Or No Strike

Hmmmmmm!!  I actually saw this trending online by some group called TeamStrike!

The current economic situation in Nigeria has gone from boom to ballistic!
It is definitely no news by now that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) have gone against court orders to suspend the nationwide strike -this happened as a result of the new fuel price which is N145 (One hundred and forty-five naira) per litre when the current minimum wage in the country is N18,000(eighteen thousand naira), as well as increment in workers’ salaries -asking for too much! No?

Celebrity Beauty Tips You Can Practice

If you have listened to celebrity interviews before, you must have noticed that one question keeps reoccurring which is, ‘What is your secret source of beauty?’ the celebrities on their part would often lie that they eat this or that or exercise and things of those sorts. The truth is that looking good is good business and no one would want to divulge the secret of their business on any account. The truth to look like any of those celebrities is not on those things they say but on their choice of makeup and how they go about it.

IPOD : Biafrans Will Come to Be Without War

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) declared yesterday that it would have no need to resort to war in order  to actualize a sovereign state of Biafra.
The president, during a recent visit to Katsina reportedly said, “for Nigeria to divide now, it is better for all of us to jump into the sea and get drowned.”
In a letter to President Buhari by IPOB’s counsel, Mr Emeka Emekesri, a copy of which was made available to  Daily Sun, the group said    the president’s utterances on the issue was prejudicial as the matter was in court.

Gov, Wike : I have No Confidence in INEC

Governor,  Nyesom Wike, said he has lost confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The governor said this in a television interview monitored in Port  Harcourt  yesterday.
“I don’t have confidence in the present  INEC. It is too inconsistent and acts outside the  law. We are encouraging every candidate  to contest elections and emerge through popular  votes. We  will  not allow  impunity  or imposition,” he  said.

Labour Prostesters Block Ikorodu Road

The Nigerian Labour Congress, its sister union the Trade Union Congress and the Civil Society Organisations this morning made good its decision to defy the Federal Government as they poured into the streets to protest the high fuel price and the hardship occasioned by this.
The Labour unions and the Civil Society are at the moment marching towards Ikeja from the Yaba office of the NLC and are close to Maryland.

The protest in Lagos  is led by one of the NLC’s deputy president  and the union said they are not disrupting movement by motorist and other road users and that they are only out to sensitize Nigerians on the hardship being foisted on them by the present government.
Daily Sun can authoritatively report that the strike is on and the protest is progressing as members of the Nigeria Police are watching the protest from the side line.

Wike in a Closed Meeting with The President in Aso Rock

Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike is currently at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he is holding a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Wike, who was elected governor of Rivers on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and one of the staunch critics of the Buhari administration’s anti-corruption war, recently pledged to partner with the All Progressives Congress-led federal government on any initiative that will be of benefit to the state and its people.
The reason for the governor’s visit to the Villa is yet to be disclosed but our correspondent reports that it might not be unconnected with his (Wike’s) recent pledge to work with the APC-led federal government especially in view of the recent upsurge of violence and politically-motivated killings in the state as well as the president’s forthcoming trip to the state on June 2 to launch the clean-up of Ogoni land, recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
As at the time of publishing this report, Wike, who arrived Buhari’s office at about 2.00pm, was still meeting with the president.
Gov. Wike, who arrived around 2 p.m only stayed for about twenty minutes before taking his leave at the end of the meeting.
When approached by State House correspondents that wanted to know the purpose of his visit to the Villa, he declined to speak as he quickly walked past the journalists.

The two major unions in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector on Friday endorsed the price modulation mechanism adopted by the Federal Government to arrive at the new N145 per liter pump price for premium motor spirit, popularly known as petrol.
The unions are the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers.
In a communique jointly issued by both unions, which was made available to our correspondent in Abuja, the national executive councils of the two organizations also called for stakeholder engagement by the government to further discuss issues pertaining how to reinvest the gains from the price modulation mechanism.

Happy Weekend

The prices of tomatoes, rice and garri, which went up at the turn of the season, have yet to come down in most markets in Lagos metropolis, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Tomatoes market The survey, which was carried out at Mile 12, Whitesand and Iddo markets in Lagos on Friday, revealed that the high price was mainly due to off season effects. The survey revealed that a basket of tomatoes which previously cost N26, 000 was being sold for between N28, 000 and N40, 000, depending on the size and quality. It also showed that a bag of rice cost between N13, 000 and N15, 000, depending on the brand while a paint tin measure of garri increased to N550 from N400. The bag price of tatashe and rodo, both brands of pepper, rose from N13,000 to N13, 500 although, onions decreased from N12, 000 to N10, 000. A bag of beans remained at N18,000, a bag of maize increased from N10,000 to N11,000 while a paint tin measure of wheat reduced from N1,100 to N1,000. Mr Femi Odusanya, spokesman for Mile 12 Market Traders Association, attributed the price increase to off-season effects and partly to the lingering fuel scarcity in the country. He said the off season effect was only worsened by the lingering fuel scarcity, as the number of trucks that supplied tomatoes to the market had reduced. “This is responsible for the tomato scarcity that consumers have been complaining about even before the increase in the pump price of petrol,” Odusanya said. He further clarified that the current prices were not as a result of the review in the pump price of petrol, as evident in the prices prior to the increase.

Pump Price Rises From N86.50 to N145

Yesterday, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the increase of the pump price of petrol by almost 40% from N86:50 to N145. The honorable minister of state for petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu defended this hike by saying that it was the only way out of the exorbitant prices of N150 to N250 Nigerians were currently subjected to at many filling stations across the country.
It is no secret that I have long been a proponent for the removal of fuel subsidies.  However this journey must ultimately lead to the deregulation of the downstream petroleum market for any long term benefit to take hold (but this is a discussion for another day). I consider that this should have been done much earlier. However subsidies have now been removed and I applaud Mr Kachikwu for taking the necessary step even though it will be a very bitter pill for Nigerians to swallow. The harsh reality is that if life was tough for Nigerians before, it is going to get much worse.
Fuel is like mother’s milk to the Nigerian. We need it not just to power our cars and transportation system, but to the majority of Nigerians, it is the main source of power for our homes. In a country where the power generation crumbled to zero megawatts as recently as March, the residential generating set is king with the Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s (PHCN) electricity being the backup.

Health Tips For Diabeties

According to a University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) news release, “A range of diseases — from diabetes to cardiovascular disease, and from Alzheimer’s disease to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder— are linked to changes to genes in the brain.”
As such, the team study team recommended that people should reduce their sugar intake and increase the amounts of DHA, though the latter is not considered “a magic bullet for curing diseases.”
DHA omega-3 is found throughout the body, but is most abundant in the brain, eyes and heart. In fact, DHA represents about 97 per cent of all Omega-3 fats in the brain and 93 per cent of all Omega-3 fats in the retina in the eye.

Exchange Rate This Morning

There had been widespread expectations surrounding the Nigerian currency especially following the reluctance of the presidency to sign the 2016 budget into law as there were observations of several anomalies in the document.

And on Friday, May 6, President Muhammadu Buhari finally signed the budget into law amid mixed reactions from Nigerians.
This has also rubbed off on the price of the Nigerian currency against the dollar on the parallel market as it now trades at $306/dollar, according to our bureau de change specialist.

Speaking on the new change on Monday, May 9, our impeccable source said: “For me, we had hoped that the Naira would appreciate in a way after the president finally signed the budget into law last weekend and that is what is being experienced right now.
“It is expected that in the coming weeks, the Nigerian currency will keep growing against the dollar on the parallel market until we return to the exchange rate which every Nigerian will be comfortable with. This is because right now, everybody is suffering the brunt of the unstable exchange rate.

Fiscal Legistimacy in Nigeria

“Taxes, after all, are the dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organised society.” Franklin D. Roosevelt: October 21, 1936.
There has been a growing interest among policy makers in correlating taxation with the role of government in providing public goods and services to its people. This more than anything brings to fore the question of a Fiscal Legitimacy.
