The newly -elected Lagos State Governor Akinwumi Ambode visited the scene of the fire incident that happened in the iyana ipaja area of Lagos State yesterday morning in which properties worth millions were destroyed. The governor said the fire was caused by 33.000 tanker petrol that fell off of the paja bridge and spilled its contents across fives streets in the area. Shops,building, cars, buses were razed in the inferno.
"Around 1 am a tanker loaded with petrol fell off the ipaja bridge and spilled it content covering almost five streets here. All our emergency agencies have been effectively on the ground and we have been able to manage and control the consequences of what the petrol would have done to the neighborhood ,Thank God, there has not been any loss of lives, But again, there are victims whose shops were destroyed.As of the last count, the agencies have been able to report that everything have been able to put under control.We have also recorded two other incidences.Just like this one in the other part of Lagos overnight.one in Badagry and the other one in Ojo area. It would also mean our tanker drivers have to start doing something about their operations. We can not continue to record loss of lives and properties because our tanker drivers are not disciplined"
